Kanye West ‘We Can’t Go Down’
The Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) has pulled a doc exploring Kanye West’s career in light of the rapper’s recent outburst.
West is slated to be the first artist to appear at the museum’s upcoming 50th anniversary exhibition. The doc, hosted by David Zellner, explores West’s career from his days with the Beastie Boys to his controversial public persona in recent years.
“We were deeply disturbed to learn that the exhibition ‘Kanye West: We Can’t Go Down’ will now make its way to the Museum of Modern Art,” MOMA said in a statement, Politico reports.
“By taking a position on the validity of the work, we cannot support any content that amplifies his platform,” it continued. “As such, the exhibition will not be on view at the Museum of Modern Art in June 2015.”
West is scheduled to play a private sold-out concert at the museum on June 15 and then appear at the museum’s public opening on June 27.

The museum’s director, Daniel Goldin, said he didn’t consider it appropriate to hold the controversial, anti-Semitic and self-described drug addict West on view in the institution, which is a world-famous repository of art and historic culture. “On any level, it’s problematic and not something we would want our museum to support,” he told Politico.
Goldin said the museum would not be endorsing West’s views on race, Israel or drug addiction. The documentary will now be available for online viewing for free.
Goldin said the museum reached out to West directly to discuss the exhibit.
West did not respond to MOMA’s announcement. “I am deeply disappointed in Kanye for the way that he has chosen
